Fiddlestix Artist in Focus

Maxiel Renne has a passion for drawing and art that began when she first picked up a pencil. Growing up in a suburban neighborhood of Rockland County, New York, Maxiel spent most of her free time sketching and reading about what the world had to offer. A lifelong love of painting began with the encouragement of her high school art teacher who recognized her budding talent.

Maxiel Renne moved to the west coast of Florida as a young mother where she launched a new career in architectural drafting and design. The beauty of the sand and surf sparked a renewed interest in painting and she began working again with both oils and acrylics.

Almost thirty years ago, Maxiel and her family moved to the mountains of North Carolina. This area provides endless scenic inspiration for her art. Painting has now become her full-time passion. Acrylics are her favorite medium, but recently she has begun experimenting with watercolors and pastels. Her primary artistic focus remains wildlife and nature, and most recently she has turned her attention to waterfalls.

Fiddlestix customers appreciate Maxiel’s mastery of light and beautifully detailed work. Her varied subject matter (fairies to mountain lions) have made her paintings among the most popular in the store.

She explains, “There is something about a waterfall that creates a universal appeal. Whether the awe inspiring majestic power of Niagara, or the soothing gentle song of a small mountain stream, the flow of falling water offers something for everyone.  Human visitors and wildlife alike seem drawn to the captivating atmosphere each fall provides.

Living in the Great Smoky Mountains has given me the opportunity to experience a wide variety of beautiful waterfalls. Throughout the entire year, whatever the season, when painting falls, I hope to capture the unique nature of its surroundings & the continuous fluid movement that is the true essence of a waterfall.”
